Story

Christmas is a time for family. But for Sam, he is constantly looking for any opportunity to withdraw into himself and escape his new role as a father.

Everything is a struggle.

From trying to get his son Charlie to sleep, to changing his nappies and attending social gatherings, Sam’s overwhelming feelings of sadness, and hopelessness on top of that, seem to follow him everywhere. Behind his brave face he suffers from guilt; for not being happy, and not being able to cope.

Meanwhile his wife, Jess, relishes her role as a Mum and is unaware of Sam’s daily struggle.

When small mistakes begin to pile up, Sam’s feelings of failure become simply too much to bear. The weight of fatherhood takes its toll, and thinking he has no-one to talk to, he’s left feeling empty and drained.

When one night he fails to buy the nappies they need, it sends him spiralling to the point of rock bottom, and leaves him convinced he’s unfit. So Sam gives himself a dark ultimatum and considers what would be best; to go home empty handed, or to not go home at all.
